Day 84: Kayaking Backwards

Let’s keep this quick. I have a movie to catch!

Today was fun despite the 8:02am wake-up call to screeching tires from the Grand Prix. Dear lord they are punctual! After chilling with Peter’s mom in the morning, we busted out the kayak for a seaworthy adventure.

Heading out on the bay was great. The wind was at our backs and we were cruising easy, enjoying the sun. However, the ride back was less than ideal. The water was very choppy, the wind was pushing us backwards, and our maximum paddling attempts got us nowhere fast.

It was really fun at first. The waves were crashing over the bow of the kayak and over me and we were laughing so hard. After about 20 minutes of laughing, we got quiet with the realization that we were not even halfway back. The next 30 minutes or more were crazy. Our hands were aching, our biceps burning, and backs shaking with exhaustion. Plus salt water in your eyes makes it hard to see! But we could. not. stop. If we stopped, the wind would push us backward!

FINALLY we made it home. I was so exhausted I could barely get myself on the dock. The rest of the day was a blur.

I did go to a birthday BBQ where my parents matched in true Floridian style:

Then I visited my grandparents and some Canadian relatives in town. They sure say “Eh” a lot.

Now it is time to curl up on the couch and watch a movie. We watched The Sitter last night which was so bad that it was kind of entertaining. In result I had a crazy dream where I was a babysitter! Funny.

Enjoy your Saturday night!
