Day 256: Into the Vortex

It worked!!!

For days I’ve been trying to figure out how to get full-sized photos from my computer to Peter’s laptop. Turns out I was emailing them as “small” instead of “actual size”. Dear me that was frustrating.

You have no idea how badly I’ve wanted to blog this week. Shanghai is crazy cool and I’ve already done a lot of exciting things.

For instance right now I am doing laundry. Our apartment is actually like a long-term hotel so they have a housekeeping service as well as communal washer AND DRYER downstairs. Well I managed to get two ladies to help me load two washing machines. They don’t speak a word of English. I speak basic cab Chinese. The washing machines buttons are all in Chinese. Obviously this ends well.

I loaded the machine #1 while the lady poured a crap ton of detergent in. Then she pushed some buttons and the time set for an hour and half. Ok.

Machine #2. I load clothes, she pours detergent and pushes some buttons. The time sets for 3 and half hours. 3 and a half hours??? I’m washing jeans not heavy duty towels or flippin’ canvas.

Ugh I’m really nervous. One load will be soapy and the other will be washed into oblivion. I’ll keep you updated.

But I need to bust out these photos of the day!! I am so excited to share my photos with you all. Or you can follow me on Instagram @kchmiele. Just sayin’

Let’s go back to Thursday September 13th.

A long day of travel. I had a quick layover in Chicago and walked through the crazy vortex to the International area.

Super trippy.

Just like the upcoming 14 hour flight to China.

Alright it’s time for me to check on laundry load #1.

Wish me luck!
